CLUB PROVOCATEUR

Just finishing off a project producing graphics for the opening of New York Citys hottest new club. Working closely with the design and builders, Color X printed large format graphics that bring elegance and hipness to this exciting new club. Printing dye sublimation large scale on fabrics brings intense color saturation and quality that really brings the art to life. The image is continued by dye sublimation printing on a different , and more durable fabric which is upholstered into the banquet seating. This dramatic imaging creates a really amazing space. Stay tuned for more graphic applications in this project

Sean '"P Diddy" Combs,  arrives for a cocktail party kicking off AOL becoming an independent company at the New York.

The balcony of the NSYE turned into DJ area. Super wide vinyl banner was backdrop.

AOL EVENT

Last night AOL held a spectacular event on the NYSE to celebrate AOL becoming an independent company from Time Warner, and Color X was there to help with their new branding. Super wide large format printed graphics were fabricated into free standing "walls" with new logos printed and placed onto the floor at the NYSE. These were later used as backdrops for bar areas.

we do windows!

this prime corner on 34th street is the perfect place to advertise for the holiday. The newstand on the corner was a major obstacle in installing these window graphics as a special lift was needed to angle above and towards windows. The owner of the newstand made it clear to us that his stand had been damaged in the past. He has pictures on his stand to prove. So with him watching every move we made we soared above the busy street of NYC for the install. Not only did the famous retailer love the graphics install so did our new friend at the stand. Mission accomplished.

MoMA Exhibition Graphics

The Bahaus Lounge and Exhibition opens today at MoMA. Furnished with Bauhaus chairs, tables, couches, and other furniture, this lounge offers visitors a relaxing space to further explore the creative processes of Bauhaus artists. Visitors may consult a wide selection of books and catalogues, and enjoy screenings of documentary films that trace the history and development of the school, including Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadic Ballet (1927) and the film of the reconstructions of Schlemmer's Bauhaus Dances of the 1920s (1982/84).

Large graphics were produced by Color X. The large entry wall is covered with Dreamscape digitally printed wall coverings. With many different textures and finishes available, this was printed on a matte finish. The virtually seamless mural combines with text and photo images for a great introduction. Other graphics were oversized fabric on stretch frames.

Great option for wall mural printing

Color X offers a great alternative to adhesive vinyl graphics. It is removable and can be repositioned easily without damaging the surface. The " Magic Fabric" can be printed on at hi resolution to give sharp detail and brilliant color. Small surface areas are easy to install by non professional installers. This is a great application for in store graphics. Interior and cash wrap areas are ideal.
This product is also great for corporate environments like lobbies and showroom graphics.

Color-X adopts new technologies to expand opportunities

By Lou Dzierzak , FABRIC Magazine

Thirteen years ago, Color-X of New York, N.Y., was producing large-format C-prints for corporate clients. By watching, listening, and reacting to customer needs, Color-X’s business has expanded into new printing and substrate technologies.

“In the beginning we had a proprietary inkjet printer that printed on rigid materials before flatbed printers were introduced,” recalls president Gary Teich. “We were printing on tiles, wood, and metal over 10 years ago. The quality was nowhere near what it is today but it was something no one was doing so it generated a lot of interest.”

As clients became more aware of what could be done, Color-X responded with new equipment and capabilities such as grand-format digital print technology. Today Color-X offers an array of printing services including dye sublimation, direct digital printing to rigid substrates, ultra-wide inkjet printing, digital C-prints, and screen printing.

Adopting new technologies like large-format and digital printing has opened new doors for Color-X. “We definitely got into markets we typically weren’t involved with,” Teich explains. “We work with architects, corporate clients, retailers, museums, exhibit houses, event companies, and designers. It’s definitely opened the doors for a lot of unique projects.” Some of those unique projects include a wallscape for New York City’s Museum of Modern Art and numerous exhibits for the city’s American Museum of Natural History.

While some clients hire Color-X to execute ideas, many others come to the company hoping to take advantage of its experience and expertise. “In many instances they come to us with a concept and they leave it up to us to offer a solution,” Teich explains. “Just with a basic concept, we will go to work creating prototypes. We take it from the idea to the finished application.”

Paying attention to customer service has paid long-term dividends. Business comes from a steady stream of referrals and recommendations. “It’s a small industry and people move around. They seem to bring us with them and that’s grown our business,” notes Teich.

New printing technology has been among the keys to being able to meet customer demands. “We can do almost anything,” Teich says. “We can print on materials that weren’t possible five years ago.”

As the Wall turns

Wow, talk about tricky installations. This large wall mural was produced on adhesive vinyl to create a seamless image. The tough part with this wall is the multiple returns and recessed area. Uneven walls make lining up the image incredibly difficult. Having an experienced installation team Color X used many install "tricks" to make this image virtually seamless. Giant wall murals are an amazing crowd stopper and are extremely effective in getting the attention of customers.

tips for installing large murals

When possible always take physical measurements or ask the pros to take a site survey. Site surveys allow for any other potential problems to be addressed before the install date. Many times walls will not be level and the larger the space the more off the measurements can be. Set up files with plenty of bleed to print to cover any areas that may fall short. Also try to keep outside area of image without text and solid backgrounds. This makes it easier to blend in any patches.
Our installers also have tricks like using heat guns to stretch vinyl to fill areas.
